hybrid ships - fail or success?

i've been thinking about this for some time now, ever since v-hyper posted info on these ships and their items on his website. no matter from which angle you approach this issue, one fact stands out and that is that these ships are not balanced in any manner. personally, i simply cannot see logic in ships's items that make them "jack of all trades, masters of none". i fly storm class and tbh i wouldnt change it for any other class. somehow i got very used to it i guess. i'll admit there are only 2 ships worth of buying and those are myst and punisher. if one is to examine items on other hybrid ships which are basically engis in the essence, you'll probably come to same conclusion that they're in no way "match" for previously mentioned 2 ships or have mutually unsupported items (rockets without aim pc, a would be engi hybrid without rep target or rep field etc). so we have two damage dealers (punisher and myst) and 4 would be engis (other 4 hybrids) as hybrid class ships? while i think that customization is nice idea, splitscreen made a mistake imho by "condemning" pilots to default designs with items that are nowhere near balanced or supportive of each other. wouldnt it be better if the all hybrids were given with only four primary items (blaster, collector, ab, rd) as default and leaving the pilots other four slots to modify as they see fit but only to be able to put two more weapons and two support items? well those are my $0.02, lets hear your opinions on this one. it'd be nice to have SplitScreen input on this topic i.e. why making such ship layouts?

For a start i think that SS have chosen our bp sets because they didnt want to go down the route of "other" games. :D . But i agree that we shuld be able to choose our own blueprints, i thought when sirius came out that we were going to be able to do that 2bh, but there you go. SS devs wont change it now, but its nice to think of the possibilities. I myself would rather have a defender than all the other ships than the myst personally, but then again thats just me. Even the Punisher is too fire effective and no shields. But yes storms are my basic ship for most systems, but i can multitask for different systems if the sm needs it, such as most of Gemini. For tau ceti, if they are doing it(covering all bases ;) ) then we should be able to choose our own bps on top of the generic bps. Thats me done :D .

when in sol recently a gm told me that the devs were thinking about making ships that we could decide what goes on it :mrorange:

Just to give you a heads up a punisher has abit more armor then a dominator ;) my clan has some punishers and punisher is always stronger as the dominator :p

yes the punisher got bit more more hp, so little it doesn't matter.
the hybrid legionary and punisher gor rocket, but no aim pc, which is a fail, the other hybrids got some engi items but also mixed from other ships. the armors of all the ships are low, the damage is weak to, strong sirius os can't pod a meth armor tank, then u know it's weak, c'mon sirius is 1 system higher then draco, c'mon why make them so weak`?

your talking wet sirius strong os can 1 shot a meth armored rank70 tank it can also 1 shot a sirius armor parsec (TESTED)

I'm a tank user, and sometimes the strong os can 1 shot but with crits, but that doesnt mean it happen always

and i can now for sure cause our clan has alot of strong os's and its been tested pretty much

not all was, it's been tested... you might only pod with the strong orbital strike 2/3 of the time(crit doesn't count)

thread is about hybrid ships and their items so keep it in that direction please. we all know that sirius stuff is far from balanced. :cool:

I disagree, I quite like the idea of having random items on some of these ships, (although I think the ancient ghost and ancient raider are a bit too similar). I mean, if you want a support ship I think the ancient raider is potentially excellent due to having both a shield and speed actuator to compliment the repair field.

You also have to consider that Sirius items are very weird and last for longer / shorter amounts of time with strange cooldown times. Until someone has these ships fully kitted out it is hard to tell how good each one is in combat / in a support role.

I think its too early to tell how well balanced these are as barely anyone has one atm.
