Sigh.. I’ve been seeing some discussion during the game in the various chats from lower level pilots - sensing that some lower level players are feeling abandoned when asking for help. I consistently see people complaining, “Nobody helps me!" I can’t speak for all, but thought I would offer my insight as a higher level player and others can jump in if they like with their own views on the issue.

There are a number of reasons why if someone requested – I would be less inclined to help them - which I will detail here. Some reasons are generic… but some of them will require you to look in the mirror to see if you fit the profile of pilot who gets less help than others.

SIRIUS: Remember that many of your highest level players have been stuck in a system that didn’t allow them to advance or get higher level tech for about a year. In that time they’ve been flying around aimlessly without story missions to do - endlessly grinding and helping others to advance, doing achievements, or looking for bps. Back in the old days you hardly ever saw level 50 prototype ships – someone with a domi was like a rock star! Now, they are everywhere. Why? Time on our hands.

Now, Sirius opened. In order to get the highest ring tech – ring 4 or 5 - you MUST be in a squad. That takes a bunch of clan members out of lower systems for an extended amount of time. Heck, a low level bp requires 22 pieces. TWENTY TWO! You think you shoot 22 mantis and you have bp? Fat chance. My squad of 5 must get… 110 bp’s for each to have a generic bp. Now with the bp/booster changes – you may or may not see the bp when it falls. Generally, it takes about an hour or longer for each person to get their bp completed – five hours for the whole squad. How many people can shoot for 5 hours in a row? Work, food, school, sleep, kids, time zones... Members leave, they come back, we are joined by others… it’s a mess. Figure a few days for the majority to complete a blue print.

And bosses? Forget it. Think of the mantis we’ve seen in Vega for the special events. Think of doing that every time you want a higher level bp. Ring 5? Oh, the boss only appears every 3 hours and to get it you must kill 100 ancients that drop intel BEFORE the boss appears. Bosses drop 3 bps – which EVERYONE wants. And you must get two to complete the bp – 6 hours of hard work for 3 people to get one blueprint. Seems like everyone is always in Sirius – yup. You want better tech? So does your higher level clan members. And we want to play our game as well. That’s why it seems like we’re “always” there.

YOU: Now that being said, we DO go to lower systems, to grind and to help others. Seems like the moment we sign on three chats open with a message…. “Can u help me? PLEEZE PLEEZE PLEEZE!!!!”

Now, at that second you are asking for my help - because I didn't sign on to play YOUR game - but rather my own... I'm thinking - um ....
Who's on right this second - in Sirius - who can help ME do what I want to do? Who's in Sirius who needs MY help to get what they need so we have stronger ships in Sirius to help each other?

When I look at the people who ask me for help I consider.. Does that person ask me to help EVERY day? Are they a big whiner? Do they have a good attitude? Do they help others? Are they a good pilot? Do they listen to my instructions? Askone is an English speaking server, but… Do they speak English well enough to communicate?

Are they reliable? I mean - are they suddenly going to say … ‘gtg’ in the middle of the mission? Don’t laugh.. happens all the time.

If I slip into my system ship are they going to continually get into trouble and drag mantis on top of me for me to save them? Have they tried the mission first? Did they bother to get the best tech? Some of them don’t even have the best armor and they are asking to do missions to get to the next system. Are they rushing the game? Are they in Sol with only 20,000 kills?

Do they think I am going to do the mission for them while they sit in orbit? It’s not happening. Not in my squad anyway. I look at their ships, I look at their tech. Am I wasting my time? I look at the squad members and ask myself the same questions about them. Then I decide if I will TEACH them.

Y’all ain’t sitting in orbit while I do all the work, that’s for darn certain. I have no problem if people make mistakes.. I make them too, but most of my clan mates know that if you don’t listen – I will disband the squad and leave you for dead on the surface - in the middle of a mission  if you don’t follow instructions. They ALSO know, if you are in my squad with me you will LEARN how to traverse the planet, overcome the mantis, and the tricks of the mission.

Many of the higher level players go through the same mental processes before deciding to help or not.
Pilots who feel like they don’t get the help they want should to ask these same questions about themselves. And pilots need to have patience with their clan mates who now - after a year - get to play something new again.

We want to play, too. If we help you, it’s because we want to, not because we have to – so try not to get impatient with us simply because we want to do the same thing YOU want to do.

And look in the mirror.

A nice post, well put. Some people have no idea how annoying it is for a high level player to help someone out with absolutely no gain for themselves. I would personally like to a system where there are benefits to helping lower levels other then a tick and a gold star, but that's another topic.

When I consider helping people, the main thing I look at is the system they are in. If they want help in anything up to, not including, Molikar, then nearly all the missions can be done solo, I know as I did most of them solo. Anything past that and it becomes nigh on impossible to do some of them. I find quite a few people get stuck on earth, and considering it took me a year and a half to finish those missions i am generally sympathetic in that department.

Not to mention missions / bps on the hive, which cannot be solo'd due to stupid under-powered weapons and armor.

Sometimes I do relish the chance to stop grinding and play in systems that are not totally broken and boring though. Draconis (havent been to, and dont want to, go to sirius yet) is such an awful system because everything is so damn hard that relaxing in lower systems is pretty fun sometimes.

Nice said, before sirius came i did check those stuff to, but did you know? When i tested if i could solo all vega-sol(unlock the earth), i began to tell ppl from vega-earth, do not ask for help, we in sirius are busy(have i changed?).

It's not our fault we high rankers can't help the newbies in the game, they might rush, but they ain't as experienced as us. but we high ranker needs lots of stuff, most thinks we shouldn't waste our time. But if SSS did think we must make this a all teamwork game, have they forgotten about the lower systems? Is there any teamwork there, do we high lvl's bother anymore?
