I am happy to see that there have been fewer posts lately on the "freeness" of the game. As mentioned to me by Astraeus, the further in you get, the less free it becomes. And so it should be the case.

Offering a "free" product is a marketing tool. The dynamic is the same no matter where you look. Any street dealer can explain how it works. Offer a "free" product to attract interest. Gradually, once interest becomes greater in the individual, then there should (and must) be a cost implication. If only to subsidize the "free" offer to new customers. Rocket science (or mantis science..lol) it is not.

I am happy to pay. And except for a few die-hards, I am probably correct in saying that most committed players who have got as far as Draconis have paid for (at the minimum) a membership. And so they should. Nothing in life is free. Except the choice to "stay and play" or go somewhere else. And really that is no choice. Any other "free to play" MMPOG is based on the same formula. So in the end, eventually, as a player you will need to make the choice. Pay up...or walk away. Or buy a proprietry games console where the games have limited life expectancy.

I have helped, and i continue to help because I think it is in the nature of senior players to show a certain grasp of the game and to "show off" their abilities (be it in mission specific work or finding bp's). All too often the request comes for help in gaining XP or cry. Am I being rude, selfish or insensitive in saying no? I ask myself, why, when I have paid for my membership and other enhancements, should I help someone progress in the game who has not paid a penny (clan excepted). This, to me, equates to someone stopping me in the street after I have met my dealer and paid for my stash and asking for a cut. Sorry. Buy your own.

Free to Play. Up to a level. After that pay up or shut up.

However, it would be nice to be able to support your "habit". The current facility for buying gold (Gamigo) is not good. We were told that new mechanisms were being investigated and would happen soon (how long is a piece of string?). Such as paying by mobile/cell phone. Gamigo/SplitScreen...whoever...if you want paying customers please re-assess your methods of payment. My dealer accepts any method of payment (within reason). Plese try to do the same.

I think sometimes it's fun to help and it's just a game so why take anything about it seriously? O.O

I agree with the point that SS need some sort of revenue/income but helping a player and messing around in a squad is hardly the same as giving someone a cut of your dope in the street. It's a GAME and fun, helping players and messing around with 'em is a good thing, it one helps the community and also keeps the players interested because they have a few people to have a laugh and play the game with. The game isn't anything without some people to play it with, and that's a fact no matter what any one says. Either pay or don't. It's as simple as that. I don't think it really matters which you choose to do.

I think you endorsed my point. I love to help...especially for gold. But I disagree with helping players XP/progress beyond their capabilities. These same players are the bored ones who force new systems to be released before proper testing. We suffer.

well count me in as one of the die-hards, although i have spent a fair bit on e, i have never brought a membership. Not worth it, in my opinion. I don't have a problem with having to buy something, but when the only noticeable change is when your spending more than £50 a month its not worth it, especially on something that is deteriorating this fast.

Then again, the better a game is, the more people spend money on it, so if your talking in terms of SS making money... There's an obvious solution to that. :sneaky:

you dont advertise it as a free to play up to a certain point then pay game, you say it is a free to play game, but now you are forcing people to pay, I know you have to make money ,but there are better ways to do it than false advertising
