Hey guys,
I've "played" Pirate Galaxy forseven years now. "Played" referring to the extended breaks (up to a year or more) that I've taken from the game. I loved this game when I first played it, back in 2010, and coming back to it and replaying has made me come to the realization that:
1. No one develops this game in a meaningful way anymore.
2. The developers are just randomly trying out things.
3. The game is 120% outdated, and frankly, not fun anymore.
Currently Standing Topics of Interest:
Blueprints --- While the multiple pieces to complete a blueprint logically doesn't make any sense, the system is fine as is, however frustrating it is now. We veterans remember the good days when it only took one to finish a blueprint.
Clans --- No gripe here, fine as is. Although it would be nice to see a feature that allows payments of Cryo from the Clanfund by the Admiral or Captain to pilots who participate in clan evens, such as CQ, organized raids, etc. Conquered planets can provide the Clanfund with Cryo/hr. It would be better incentive for players to join clans instead of only to "get help with story missions" and "grind blueprints".
Cryonite --- Grinding for hours on end in one spot is tiring and not fun. The average Cryo drop scales poorly to the cost of tech. Let's take a look at the Drops : Cost ratio.
Using the top Custodian Commanders of a given system and the Cryo drops list from Hitchhiker's Guide* to buy the top blue Weapon tech of the given system we will calculate the D:C ratio.
Vega -- CC drops 24 Cryo. Ion Storm Blaster costs 459. D:C ratio come out to about 0.052. In other words, each drop will get you 0.052 x 100% or 5.2% closer to being able to purchase the Blaster. 20 drops gets you the Blaster based on the ratio.
Antares -- CC drops 56 Cryo. Ion Inferno costs 1230. D:C ratio is 0.046. 22 drops.
Gemini -- CC drops 69.5 Cryo. Fusion Tempest costs 1779. D:C ratio is 0.039. 26 drops.
Mizar -- CC drops 88.5 Cryo. Fusion Force costs 4168. D:C ratio is 0.021. 48 drops. Notice the drastic difference between Antares and Gemini versus Gemini and Mizar.
Sol -- CC drops 110 Cryo. AM Distortion costs 9037. D:C ratio is 0.012. 84 drops. Doubles from Mizar.
Draconis -- CC drops 156 Cryo. ZP Pulsar costs bloody 43443. D:C ratio is 0.004 (Less than half a percent). 250 drops. Triples from Sol.
Keep in mind this is for top BLUE tech. Costs and drops needed are doubled for rares.
Easy fixes: Increased drop value. SCALE DROPS BASED ON SYSTEM TECH COSTS. Each system should only be at maximum 20% more expensive than the last. [[If the price doubles, have drops increase 1.9 times.]] Or decrease the price of ships and equipment.
Also, don't tell me that grinding together in a squad is better, while more fun, it doesn't yield better profits as every drop is split. You can farm at double the speed but you get half the Cryo it's the same as grinding solo, disregarding energy collection time and risk of death.
Energy --- Really? It's 2017 and we have a resource that is going to restrict how much we can play before we have to go back to sitting in an energy field? Albeit duplicate blueprints give a decent chunk of energy but removing it would be better for everyone. This isn't a Facebook game. Or at the very least have it recover by itself when the pilot is idle based on the level of the ship or a flat percentage of the total.
Levels --- Grinding for hours on end in one spot is once again tiring and not fun, lets keep that away from the game and make missions (story missions in particular) have scaling experience such that players can go through the entire story and end up at level 85 guaranteed - right on level to get into Sirius and Tau Ceti with a clan. Alongside that, have the story be completely soloable. I cannot stress this enough due to the lack of players. This game has a rather interesting story that players will want to see without having to stop because the story units are too hard to solo. If you have the levels and tech, you shouldn't have trouble.
--- On a side note, whoever's idea it was to implement level restrictive tech for missions is completely pissing me off right now. THERE WAS NO ISSUE WITH THE OLD SYSTEM RESTRICTIVE TECH After all, who doesn't want to finish a system and go back to complete all the side missions. JUST GIVE ME THIS ONE THING.
The Raven dynamics events are just completely lazy (honestly a waste of time and Cryo) and have zero logical story background connections to the Pirate Galaxy universe. Phobos is the only good thing that happened, and only because it has a dock and is near Aurora.
Now hear me out. I'm not saying that the devs are useless, I'm saying that the game isn't progressing like it used to. I understand than a lot of what I'm suggesting requires recoding the game and whatnot but some things are a simple change of values (the Cryo issue for one). Updates are few and far between (lack of devs, I get it), most of them are simply a fix to a glitch. I hope that this game, however unlikely, will once again shine like it used to.
And here we are at the end of my ranting. To summarize:
1. Grinding is frustrating and not a good mechanic.
2. A game that scales properly is a good game.
3. This isn't a Facebook game. We don't need energy.
4. "We need to build a wall. A big beautiful space wall. And we're going to make the Mantis pay for it... Though, some, I assume, are good Mantis, nah, who am I kidding, all Mantis are bad Mantis." - Emperor Kiligula, probably.
Feel free to correct me (I'm basing most of my knowledge from what I've seen/remembered) or add on to what I've said. Hopefully someone who still cares and is in upper management for Pirate Galaxy or Splitscreen will do something meaningful.
Thanks for reading!
