darkdude, I think I have the same problem. (CM/GMs: I've already made a ticket)
The launcher goes to 2%, then quits because of an error. It has something to do with the loader not being able to retrieve the latest patch files - nothing I find indicates a problem with java. Not that it matters much for the downloadable client, which has it's own java virtual machine packaged along with it anyway.

Anyway, I guess it's just waiting till they manage to fix our tickets :)

If you have this error, best you could do is to un-install the PG client, restart your computer, then download and install again from the site.

Most this kind of problems has been resolved with that.

Also please check you have all your drivers, graphic-cards etc. up to date, that can also cause problems.

Then you can also test with the Java medic tool at the PG website, you can find the link below my signature banner.
Anyway, if you file a ticket, remember always to include the Java medic report data.

Thanks for your reply, Adrana. I just wish it was that simple - I've reinstalled PG three or four times now, and did a clean java install as well, just to be sure. Drivers etc. are all up-to-date, and the medic tool shows no problems.

The launcher just wants to update the files, but those files don't seem to exist on the server...

Theres couple options if reinstalling client doesnt work:
1. Update drivers for graphic card
2. Download newest DirectX from Microsoft's page

I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with any drivers or otherwise out-of-date software. As far as I know and can see, it's all up-to-date. The thing is that the launcher loads a config file from splitscreen named currentGame.xml, and checks if all files are up to date. Since they aren't, the loader initiates the update.
The files it requests however cannot be downloaded, and because the update fails the launcher quits.

So either the files are inaccessible for some users for some reason, or the files listed in currentGame.xml are wrong. (It's not a firewall issue, I've tried turning it off while trying to start PG and it made no difference.)

The thing is, this only happened after the latest PG patch, before I could play just fine, both using browser and client. Another reason I know it's not driver / software related...

Ok, I think I've made some progress. I think my router's firewall blocks the files. When PG tries to download them, they fail with a 404. When I try to download them via the browser, a 404 as well. I've tried a workaround with a php script to get the files, and that worked and I could download them just fine from my personal website. That's as far as it goes, I'm afraid, some files I can't find in the log so I can't download those...

i just recieved a mail from support that we should try the following things....

1) Completely remove Java from your System
2) Completely Remove PG from your System (It may be found here: C:\Users\(username)\AppData\LocalLow\PirateGalaxy\ - Remove ALL Files & Folders)
3) Download & Install CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner) - Run Cleaner & the Registry in the Default config until No Issues show up
4) Defrag your Hard Disk - Also scan it for any problems (ScanDisk)
5) Re-Download & Install Java in the Browser you use (http://www.java.com
6) If playing PG thru a Browser, Just start the game; Otherwise download the latest client & Install

im gona try these things later this day cus i dont have many time now but mayby u can already try it

While I didn't follow that mail for support, I decided to follow my own instinct, and it turns out it was right.

I went to a local McDonalds' branch (because of the free WiFi ^^), and there I could update and login without a problem. Now that I am home however, I still can't play - the game still requires a few language files that aren't stored on my laptop. Without those files, the game launches *whoo!* but it doesn't show the login screen, because it doesn't have the right text to fill it with.

EDIT: Luckily, I managed to get the language file from a cache I saved. PG seems to work for now, but the underlying problem (cloud.splitscreenstudios.com being blocked for some reason) still remains - it's just less relevant right now. :)
