I don't grind, I simply do most of the white missions which can be challenging and fun, especially the higher level timed ones. I level fairly quickly and get plenty of cryo from these missions (both from the reward, and from the normal drops). I don't understand why some people complain that they have to grind for cryo to buy armor and tech, I've always had more than enough cryo to buy the ships, armor and tech. It just takes some time getting the BPs (which you also get by doing the missions). My only complaint on the missions is that the white tech missions seem to have a lower than normal drop rate for the particular BP you are looking for. But that is not the case for the timed missions in which I often get a BP drop. Also, most of the rare BPs I have found (and I've found my fair share) have been dropped while I was doing the missions.
