Idle NPC Squadron

Hi, im fairly new to this game, joined up a day or two ago. anyway i recently had a mission where i was assigned a squadron that did absolutely nothing but watch as i almost died four times. the mission would have been much easier, and simply cooler if i was able to direct them at will to attack or something. is there a hidden feature that i did not see or does it not exist? how could i get the squad to attack with me instead of watching and doing nothing? i would suggest it, but im not sure if it is an unavailable action or something.

Whats the name of this mission? If it is Colonial Counter Attack, then it is bugged and you will just have to do it alone.

There are a lot with squad command,

Some very intellegent like:

There is only one mission in Draconis ,The 6th Starsystem (Rescuiïng Layla) that has a very smart Scan-System what makes them stop/move.

There is also an mission in Draconis (Weaponized Methanoids) where a ship repairs himselfs ever scan.
