There are two ways of making cryonite:
-By doing white missions.
-By hunting mantis harvesters.

I will be focusing on the second, as the first is not much hard to understand.
So Mantis harvesters are the ones that give the best cryonite, thus they are most preferable for cryonite hunting. You can always shoot other mantis as well, but you wont be making as much cry as u make by shooting harvesters.

Not every ship is good for harvester grinding. I am afraid that you will have trouble if you have an engineer or a shock ship. Only storm and tank (and sniper, when you find it in Sol or unlock it in draconis) are good for this type of grinding. So before you buy a ship, you might want to consider what kind of player you are and if you are the grinding type, a storm or a tank will be the best ships for you.

Now you have 2 choices:
-Shoot harvesters in your current system. They will be harder and will take more energy, but they will drop more cry or...
-Shoot harvesters in the previous systems, preferable 2 systems below yours

I prefer the second one, as the lower lvl harvesters are much easier and the cry difference is not that big. If you choose the first one, skip down the page to see Harvester killing tutorial.

Now, unless you have the unlimited membership, your goal must be to save as much energy as possible. How can this be achieved?
-Always use only the blaster on harvesters, do not use rockets on them. Considering that you are 2 systems below your current one, the harvesters only take 2-4 blaster shots.
-Do not use your thermoblast, aggrobomb or Orbital strike on Harvesters. These items have to be saved for the interceptors, except the thermoblast which is useless on them but the storm got rockets instead.
-Avoid repairing too often. As you may have already noticed, repairing costs energy and you don't want to waste energy. So only repair when you have very low HP.

Now if you do not collect the cryonite dropped by the interceptors because its too small, it would be a good idea to get away from them using your afterburner, so they leave and you dont have to waste energy on them. If you collect their cryonite, which I strongly suggest, then you can kill them.

Remember, grinding takes a lot of time for the higher systems, so you need patience. You might want to set a goal such as making 20k cry a day, that will help you.

1.Harvester killing tutorial.

Have you ever kept shooting and shooting the harvester and suddenly found yourself in trouble because of the interceptors. That has happened to almost anyone in this game. So when you decide to go shoot some high lvl harvester for experience or cryonite, consider reading the following guide.

Before we start you need to know the interceptor waves. As you know, the Hit Points bar is separated in 4 parts. A wave of interceptors will drop each time you take 1/4 of the harvester HP. So there are 4 waves in total. However they do not have the same number of interceptors:
Wave 1- Only one interceptor
Wave 2- Two interceptors
Wave 3- Three interceptors
Wave 4- Four interceptors

Now as you may have realized, if you keep shooting the harvester all 4 waves will drop and unless you have a good armor, you will find yourself in trouble. So here is what you do. When the first interceptor lands, stop shooting the harvester and shoot the interceptor instead. Only use the blasters for this one, save the rockets or aggrobomb for the latter waves. After the interceptor's dead, start shooting the harvester again. Do the same thing when the second wave lands, and then again when the third wave lands. This time you must be low on HP so repair as the next wave will be hard. If you used your rockets then wait until they reload. In case you are in a tank ship do not worry too much as you will most likely survive the last wave. Repeat the procedure with the last wave, then give the last shots to the harvester.

I disagree, I found thermo is the best to get more interceptors out of harvester, and I talk with experience of years ;)
More Interceptors = more cry.

not really, inters don't reward, harvs do, I can get 300 from molikar harvs if I 1 shot them, low on energy takes a little bit time, but is much more E/Cry etc.

You 1 shoot them, the same cry drop from harvester if you shoot it 5 times, thermo, rocket or 1 shoot.
But then you do not get any inters cry.

I am not talking about a high level player on harv grind with high tech and 1 shoot kills, as a Draconis ship on Gemini or even on Mizar and SOL, as I believe the guide is for all systems, and from Prosperous in Gemini to Draconis, it's the best way to get cry grinding with system tech & ships.

I don't thing the gemini players with gemini tech can 1 shot the harvs on Prosperous, nor even Gemini ship will 1 shot kill harvs on Antares.

So if you want to give your advice mr pbhuh, do it so it fits for everyone and not only high level players.

OK see I have done many experiments during my r70 ship grinding.
Here is what I came up with

-When using only blaster, avoiding the interceptors by getting away from them, I made 55k cry by playing all day.
-When using only blaster and also shooting the interceptors, I made 70k by playing all day (notice the 15k increase)
-When using only blaster and thermoblast on harv and not killing the inters=48k
-Blaster, thermoblast and inter killing=58k

It is true that more inters will drop when thermoblasting a harv, but you will also spend more energy on the harv, so my observations suggest that blaster only and inter killing would be the best.

Not only that, but consider that more interceptors means more damage, more repairs, more energy wasted.

EDIT: As I said in the beginning, the best place for harv grinding is 2 systems below your current one. For example if you are in draconis, the best place would be Molikar, antares for Mizar and Vega for Gemini. In Sol things get a big mixed up. If you have mars or moon tech then u should grind in Gemini, if ur on Earth, baumar is supposed to be the best place, but since the drop rate there is terrible, ull have to go to Molikar.
