This might be less applicable with the update to events, so... I will shoot anyways. :) Idea derived from:

I thought, why mantis? I want players. I think it would be nice if you could open your conquest planet up to other clans, have a list of some sort, either drop down or you could type in names and it would allow you to add clans that can come down, so you can have clan war type things going on... Allies, enemies, whatever you want.

i like both, but the mantis one wood be nice, owning a cq planet is boring, nothing on there but e, some challange would be nice like mantis, and mantis could drop cry and stuff

How about something like this:

CQ Planet has orbit menu options available only to the Admiral and Captain ranks of the owner clan.

Option 1: Mantis Planet
Selecting this option would populate the planet with mantis appropriate to the system the planet is located in. Every 24 hours a rare mantis appropriate to the system will appear.

Note - Basically it would be a 24 hour mission with respawns and one triggered event. This would provide a safe haven for lower rank members in a clan to gain ranks and give members a chance at a rare paintjob.

Option 2: PvP Planet
Selecting this option would leave the planet barren with the exception of energy fields. Pilots who visit the planet would be given a maximum of 99 'lives' for PvP action while members of the owner clan would have no limit. A leader board viewable in orbit would track the kills/deaths for the 'home team' and visitors.

Note - This may only require a reworking of code that already exists.

Every 24 hours, the option could be changed by the Admiral or Captain of the owner clan. This would allow the clan to make a choice between PvE and PvP activities, according to their preference.

Additional features could be added to each option, such as reduced cryo loss when a pilot is podded, or the chance to pick up the cryo lost by an opponent.

Well, this idea concept sounds good, because planets are useless.. no one goes to CQ planets after it's conquered.. But PvP planet.. na.. Mantis Planet? Invasions? Better rare drop? More rare patterns? Special Planet PATTERNS?! HELL YEEEEE

I was thinking there would be 3 options in a separate panel there for the admiral/captain. 3 'modes' for the planet, Default (conquest planet functions like normal), No Allies (all clans are red to one another), Team (you can assign clans to teams).
