Ok, I thought the bug was fixed with the recent update with the log out issue but the bug I have still appears. First off, lemme give some specs. Askone server. Pilot name is RzrsEdge. Windows XP Pro SP3 with 768m Nvidia GeForce video card and 22" wide screen Proview monitor set to resolution 1680x1050. Game is also set to 1680x1050 full screen and everything works great but when I hit Alt F4 to exit the game, it causes the bug. Can be recreated. My problem is when the game lags bad to where I have to do a restart, I can log out that is fine but Alt F4 causes the crash. I Alt F4, restart the game and the resolution is fine at 1680x1050 but the playable game area reverts back to 800x600 and doesnt allow me to click anything but the upper left of the game area causing another Alt F4 to get out. The way I solved that issue was to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of the game. The reinstall allows me to get back in the game, set my resolution back to where it was and play. If I do just a reinstall, it doesn't help. I have to completely uninstall first. Below are screen shots of the game in progress as it loads. Hope this helps and if you need more info, let me know.

Are you sure this is a bug? Alt+F4 closes the current select window but doesn't shut down the client properly. Its like a hard reset which doesn't allow the client to save anything. The Java prgrams also doesn't shut down properly this way and requires time to timeout before it goes off. It's like pulling your power cable from your computer to switch off windows.

Almost sure. I can log out and leave the game off for half hour or so and still the same thing. It mostly happens around restart time. I have gotten the "service is unavailable" several times and with no other option to close the game except Alt F4, that also causes it. Maybe I will check my java and see if it needs updated or completely uninstall java then reinstall it then see if that fixes things but as of now, I have to uninstall/reinstall the game in order to play. Just becoming a hassle. :)

I get some ppl to look into this. Doesn't look like a client bug as such but we see if they can figure this out. I'll keep you posted.

I have a suggestion.

Instead of using alt-f4 to close the client, use WinKey+d to show desktop then right-click the icon on the taskbar for the pirate galaxy client and click 'close'. This forces the application to close under windows' control. This is a clean close as if you had clicked 'exit' within the client.

You still have to wait for that process to complete but it is better.

Another thing to bear in mind is that some time the java runtime remains active and you have to close it from within the task manager. You can see the dependencies if you use 'Process Explorer' as a replacement for the taskmanager. Process Explorer is a free download from the microsoft technet http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx , part of the sysinternals suite. Very good stuff!

Respectfully,

Ok Delloda. This time I am not hitting Alt F4  I done a GOOD log out after playing maybe an hour or so and the error came back. I DID make an exact copy of all the game files and make an EXE so all I have to do is extract the files and overwrite them and im all good but its still annoying :)

I found a work-around for this. If this happens to you, click on exit under the login button and the next time you restart it will be fixed until you exit with alt-f4 or windows x button again but the just repeat.
