Textures are not all organised the same way. To see a ship with correctly mapped UVs when using a different texture set requires swapping that model with an entirely different model. The time/labour cost of remapping every single model to create variations on every single texture currently available to fly on ships is incredible. Mapping textures for one ship for one texture alone is 3-6 hours. Multiply that by 7 for every texture set available, then by however many ships we have in the game. The amount of time spent doing that, I would instead be able to spend towards building a fully functional game start to finish with vacation time left over. Then there is further labour to then implement every single model/texture variation into the game, which would mean you'd increase the loading burden of models and textures seven fold. It's unfortunately just not a feasible feature at all because the textures were never designed this way.We thought the focus of the alloy improvements was on being able to see different textures on the ship models. For example: What would a Dominator AnIn-1 look like with a Raven texture? That would be genuinely amazing, and I know perfectly well that an implementation like that would be incredibly laborious in terms of art design, but that's what we thought (not everyone, but at least those I talk to).
