Using abilities after targeting squad mates using the squad

If I click on a squad member using the squad window to select them, and then press a number key to use an ability, it doesn't work.

However, if I click on their ship, and then press a number key, it does work.
It also works if I click on their name/box in the squad window, and then click on the ability in my ability bar.

I'm guessing it's some sort of focus bug, where focus goes to the clicked window, and the squad box just eats the keystroke?

It would be really nice if I could click on their name/box in the squad window, and press a number, to say, repair them, or something.

Same thing happens when you use the target from the map on the right. If you select an item/mantis etc the skill numbers don't work until you "click" in the main game screen, then they function normally.
