Well, here's my first PG story. I kind of wrote it in a spur of the moment kind of thing, so don't be surprised if it sucks a little ^^
It was a clear morning day, the twin Gemini suns were shining brightly through the Prosperous radiation shield. A lone GC-1 Fusion Storm named Dauntless was on a patrol, watching for any signs of unrest. The Mantis invasion had started over 20 hours ago, and the Antares system has already fallen, and is now overrun with Mantis. The pilot of the Dauntless, James, was lounging back in his chair when suddenly his radio came to life with frantic voices. He isolated one, which said, "Attention, to all available GDF units, make way to Commerce Central immidiately, the Mantis have attacked!". Dauntless rose gracefully into orbit of Prosperous and formed a squad with about 30 other GDF fighters. In one quick movement, they all set off towards Commerce Central.
Upon their arrival, they were met with a saddening sight. The entire planet lay in ruin, with buildings crumbling, walkways broken in two, and absolutely no communication whatsoever from the planet. Suddenly the comm unit came to life again, this time saying, "The Mantis have destroyed the radiation shield on Prosperous! They're all heading to Technatoria now, all surviving units, fly there immidiately!". "Ok pilots, you heard the man, lets go!" said James over the squad-linked radio. The pilots set off for Technatoria, hungry for vengeance.
At Technatoria, every last surviving GDF ship was there, watching, waiting, for the Mantis to arrive. Tanks, Storms, Engineers, even heavy artillery warships and 2 Providence class Missile Frigates. It was truely an awesome sight to behold, as all the GDF ships, about 300 strong, all flew in formation to intercept the Mantis armada before it got to Technatoria. Suddenly, the sensors in James' cockpit start to light up with hundreds of enemy contacts, all bearing down upon the GDF fleet. "Alright people, remember, beat them back at all costs, Technatoria must not fall!" Said the captian of one of the Missile Frigates over the radio.
As soon as the Mantis units entered weapons range, all hell broke loose. Ships exploding left and right, the Missile Frigates and artillery ships firing rocket after rocket and energy pulse after energy pulse. James was calmly selecting another target after blowing 2 mantis out of the sky, when suddenly a Mantis siege unit rams into one of the Missile Frigates, causing a nova bright explosion and breaking the Frigate clean in half. The siege unit continued on to Technatoria, unhindered by the fighting which was now well behind it. James clicked on his comm unit and said "All units, fall back to the planet, we can't hold this position!".
The fleet makes a retreat back to Technatoria orbit, getting shot at the entire way there. Their losses were heavy, over 2/3 of the fleet lost, with the artillery ships and 1 Missile Frigate gone. The mantis were bearing down like hounds to their prey. 3 GDF ships exploded instantly under the might of one of the mantis siege units, making room for a Mantis bomber to get through. No one noticed as the tiny ship entered the atmosphere of Technatoria, and dropped it's payload. The Mantis armada suddenly starts moving off, and for one moment the GDF thought that they had beaten them back. How sadly mistaken they were. With a flash that resembled a star going supernova, the whole planet of Technatoria exploded, taking the remains of the Gemini Defense Force with it. All that stands at the location where this historic battle took place is charred rock, a few shards of metal, and a destroyed escape pod with the name "Dauntless" on it.
