Locking on target, ship moves automatically towards enemy until it gets fairly close and tries to keep this distance. There's no trying to persuade it otherwise which I find really bothersome as my blaster usually outguns Mantis weaponry. I want to fire at it , not kiss it and let it smear paint all over my ship.

When locking on live target the ship should automatically stop advancing at my firing range.

If you agree, reply saying "Yes! That's what bothers me in Pirate Galaxy. Let's fix it!"

if you right click on a target, it will lock on without flying towards it, so u can get as close as you want.

That's true, but you have to move with direction keys and then there's no stopping - except for turning around.

That's immaterial though - I'm asking why locking on causes ship to humpback enemy? It's obvious that pilots are trying to hit their target and to avoid being hit - why push so close in the first place? Lock on target and fire from distance.

If u lock on an enemy u can use right click to move ure ship any way and distance u like.

Just be carefull not to right click onto anything else and u're lock stays on target no matter where u go.

How about you double click the target to follow it and just click once to lock onto it?

I agree its annoying when the ship goes flying towards it and yes you can right click it but if you move you loose your target lock on it.

I have no problem in following, unfollowing or moving while following target. All I want is to stop my ship from licking the target's tail - I want my ship to stop at firing distance and not go closer automatically. If the enemy closes in it's another thing - I can turn around and keep distance while shooting him to oblivion, but I don't want to have to stop my ship and start shooting at the same time.

I guess following a ship uses the same distance as when sucking energy/blueprints/pods in - the programmers simply used the same subroutine. What I suggest is to insert a clause when if it's a ship then use firing distance, else use sucking in distance. If some people want to follow close (as when escorting a friendly ship) then there can be differentiation by number of clicks - one left button click = follow using firing distance, two left button clicks = follow close/suck in.
