Special Mantis units

Hi. Can anyone tell me about apperance of special Mantis units. As a noob, I killed one of them once. It was giant Barbarian, all in pink colour. Where I should watch for announcement of such happenings, and how often they appear? I am asking because it is really fun to kill them, and it is quite a treasure what is left of them.

those are rare mantis units. besides good cryonite drop they drop rare color pattern which you can purchase to customize your ship in hangar and they are spawned randomly by the server. i think that they spawn only once a day so it's quite a luck if you get one. earlier they were spawned by GMs but now that task is done by server automatically.

Rare mantis can spawn in any planet any time of the day. Its fully random thing.
Once I shot a rare pyro on Technatoria and couple mins later rare rocketeer landed near another pilot on Commerce Central...

They come when they want...

i always have notification, mesage above chat: "We have rumours that Rare Mantis is on the Planet"
where Planet will be name of planet on which u currently landed (or if u r on orbit too, but i don't remember)

It is always announced on the screen just as Rademenes said, it is seen in the System where it appears.
It's a 1 time notice, and when mantis is engaged by xxxx, it announced that as well too, and when it is killed, same thing.
