I'll reserve comments regarding the new steering system for another time. Prior to February 10, 2011 and after the new steering system was put in place, the "S" key did a really wonderful thing in Relative Steering Mode--it actually stopped the ship in place when moving/targeting. Then, on the 10th, the "S" key stopped functioning, again, in Relative Steering Mode. Did anyone else notice this?
After going back-and-forth with Support and GMs, it was made clear to me that a hotfix was applied around the same time. Fix? Hardly! I do not think that I was successful in sharing with Support exactly why I felt this functionality was useful, and not for lack of trying...LoL So, let me take a stab here:
When this was working, I could hold the 'S' key while repeatedly hitting TARGET ROTATE (TAB) and this would allow me to remain stationary while queuing multiple targets to attack, thus allowing me to avoid having my ship inadvertently relocated to a nearby area where I might get targeted by additional nearby mobs before I was ready to engage them. For example: I would attack a Harvester. When the Interceptors (thx AFA!
) appeared, I could hold the 'S' key to keep my ship stationary while rotating targets. Thus, I would kill the first Interceptor, hit TAB while holding the 'S' key to target the next Interceptor, then attack the second Interceptor while remaining stationary....rinse, spit, repeat (lol).
I wish I could show someone in-game just how cool this was, but, well... Anyway, I hope this gets some serious consideration!
