So, I have a great idea for a new way to diversify gameplay and generate new interest in the game. What i propose is a random (pvp) battle generator. The idea came to me while playing one of the other games I like to spend time on. This game often has 15k players online and ~300 battles occuring at most given times so it's evident that people enjoy this type of play.
My suggestion is to introduce a random pvp battle generator into the game. It would work like this:
1) Players would pick their ship of choice before entering the queue.
2) 2 teams would be formed and players would then be placed in teams randomly with disregard to buddy status and clan/alliance affiliation.
3) Players would be placed in battles only with similar tech to what they are currently using at the time.
4) A timed Pvp battle ensues
also... this option of play would be offered from very early in the game to help attract a more diverse group/style of players
Now the timed battle could be structured to give points for either outright annihilation, base capture, base defense, or any combination of these things.
Most importantly, by participating in these type battles the players could also progress somewhat in the game. The victors would earn a small amount of XP (if the battle was relevant to their current in game level) and in game loot (in the form of common tech BP's for the system ships being used.)
Offering this new way of playing and (limited) progression in the game would help the game in the following ways:
1) because of this more diverse way of playing, the game would appeal to a greater range of people thus potentially increasing its fan base.
2) Players would be able to progress somewhat in the game through pvp battles so those interested in that type of play would find more enjoyment in the game.
3) New systems and the best tech would still only be able to be reached through story missions and grinding so interest in these areas would be maintained through the desire to excel in battle
3) Players fostered through the new (random) system would be more likely to accept pvp as just a part of the game and not an unforgivable act of aggression ...leading to more fun and less in game animosity.
4) because battles/teams would be formed randomly teams would never be the same thus ensuring no one faction would maintain dominance. This also helps to maintain interest and promote fair play.
5) this would also provide seasoned players with a way to break up the monotony of everyday casual play.
Now its important to note that this would differ greatly from Conquests. The teams would be picked through random matchmaking so there's no guarantee who will be placed on what team and after the battle any spoils would be assigned directly to the players and not the clans.
