Thank goodness I had some great pilots helping me when I first got to Draconis and landed on Gazica - explaining the new mantis I encountered and taking me for a tour.
I am a total newbie in that system and it's hard, but not impossible. I'm spending a lot of time concentrating on finding out how each mantis operates.. whether or not it's territorial, weapon range, strategies for escape, etc.

The minelayers in the game make me insane - for a couple of reasons. I probably spent 4 hours just trying to figure out the pattern to their behavior. How many mines do they lay.. where do they drop the mines in their flight pattern... when do they drop the mines... how close do you have to be before they fly off the ground and attack you... can the minelayers drop mines with their shields up... what other mantis are generally hanging around with the minelayers?

Here's my gripes. If the mines themselves have the ability to pod you, why are they only worth 1 cry each?

Not worth picking up, right? But if you plan on staying in that area for any length of time you better target it... because probably 20% of the time there's another mine hiding underneath that cry. But how to target the mine itself (really quickly) when the cry is on top of it?

Sometimes the minelayer will drop 4 mines at a time.. what's with that? The area is already littered with mines and now the minelayer drops still more - making it impossible to fly through an area without triggering them. So, if you do get to through the intersection it's with no health and you're then set upon by two custodian commanders and pod. Or if you try to take the time to shoot the mines - pyros and assassins are swarming all over you - but um.. hang on guys.. I'm shooting mines... can you give me a minute... grrrr... if I could just TARGET the mine.

So my point is.. if there is a mantis - or its weapon - such as the mines - that has the ability to pod you -SHOOTING the darn things should be worth way more than 1 cry. Firing a weapon uses energy. I'm laying out 10 shots on the mines to get through that area, then 15 shots more to kill the minelayer who's arsenal includes mines, blaster, and shield.

And if I just made 10 kills on mines.. where's the XP for those kills?

But that's another rant.

 Lool I enjoyed reading your rant here, I surely agree with you about the mines, they are a pita.

But what would be just easiest for you to do, is first to kill off the mines what are spread, then when it's possible, kill the Minelayer, then do it each time it spawns and you have a minefree area if you have to remain on it, or near it for eg a white mission.

Don't forget, that is Draconis, and not supposed to be easy. Anyhow I would like to gain xp and a bit more cry also from each of them, Minelayer gives you more than 1cry when killed, if it drops cry.

I could had saved you ur observing time , they do not have pattern where and how they lay the mines, it is totally random how many and where. Specially when you are in a pod, it will lay a lots of them around you so if you self mat, you surely might be podded again. You just need to recharge your heal and ab before u selfmat so you can take off very fast when ready.

They also do not have any other pattern of mantis around them, it totally depend on the minefield what mantis there are around, but there is no particular mantis what likes to hang out with the minelayer lol.

What was said before, you need to AB over them, thats why AB is one of the most important items to upgrade asap when you are able after reaching Draconis, believe me, it will save you 1000 times form getting poded by mines.

if I could just TARGET the mine.
If you are not sure, you can open up your target list, and click on the mines from there and shoot, that way you will reach any hided ones under any cry there.

Oh and don't mind ridoi, he is just after postcount, aka SPAM!! :devilish:

LOL No. I don't observe every mantis in that way.

Most of the time in a new system I just blast through the territory with my eyes squeezed shut - screaming AUGHHHHHHHH!

Hoping that when my afterburner died I wasn't in an even worse place than I was to begin with.

And I have to tell you that before I got to Draconis I would look at where my higher level buddies were and see that half the time they were in the Woe Fields - and think.... Wow. Woe Fields. Huh. I wonder what kind of a place that is? ...Not knowing that it was the hanger that all good pilots go to when they die.

Thank you for the good advice about afterburning through the area. I was lucky to be on last night when a squad formed to hit some harvs for XP and they helped me to get an afterburner - which I installed. So, sometime today I will follow your advice and see if it reduces the frequency of my Woe Fields visits.
