The rage and rants page certainly has seen a lot of activity over the past few days. And I have a few thoughts I need to drop into the bucket.
And I have to tell you, I wouldn't be a GM right now for a million bucks. I've been in the GM chat rooms and... wow guys, we need to realize that the GMs really, truly, have no control over what's gone on. They have a tough job that they really don't get compensation for. They take the brunt of our frustration, fix problems, give advice, and pass along feed back to SS. Let's cut them some slack, give them the respect that they deserve and use the forum for the purpose for which it was intended. Beating up the people who are there to help us, won't help us in the long run. By all means, express your thoughts, but do it in a way that doesn't attack, or make it personal.
2ndly, I hope SS realizes that the ranting is because we pilots have been playing a game that we love. Part of what we love is the virtual community of people from all walks of life, the world over.
It's competition, it's camaraderie, it's discovery, and even affection surrounding people we never ever would have interacted with - were it not for this game. Meeting and helping new players - it's a fun part of the game. And it's a big attraction for many of us.
Some of the changes SS has made has affected our community. Many of the higher level players - back at the beginning of their play - have had others jump in to assist them when their skill or equiptment wasn't up to the task - and later, they went back to other planets to help when a lower level needed assistance. It wasn't unusual for someone who was a level 60 to just show up in orbit and say.. Who needs help? Amazing...generous... and typical for a PG player. A new friend, a mate, a playing partner... what could be better than that?
Prior to the change, if i jumped into a squad in a Vega or Anteres ship to assist and got podded, oh well. Now I stand to lose a great deal of cryo and I will think twice... or three or four times before I offer.
And that Split Screen, changes and takes away a great part of the game. It will virtually eliminate that part of the experience of playing PG.
Engineers now, are virtually useless except in squad. No one I know who's a high level will take their engi to a lower planet and risk losing their hard earned cry to help new players in the story missions which are nearly impossible without an engineer - like Molikar and Technitoria.
The earth players were SO excited about Draconis and couldn't wait to get to the new system.
The strong rants are because they feel betrayed in some way. PG went from a game that anyone could play to a game that seemed to be all about money. Why? Because over the past few months boosters are now in our face. When we go on a tech mission - a pop up appears that offers us a blueprint booster. Not that they seem to do much good. Boosters show up urging us to spend money on all sorts of things. Now, with the changes, the difficulty has increased and for what reason???
And that too, seems to be all about spending money.
This household has four paying memberships. I wonder if we will continue... it will be difficult to decide. It's the people I will miss.
I love this game as it was.
